Plastics Are Poisoning You:
How to Detox Your Body & Home
How to Detox from Plastics
Plastics are everywhere—and they are forever chemicals, meaning they can linger in your body for years, disrupting hormones, natural bodily functions, and overall health. From food packaging to clothing, kitchen tools, furniture, and even indoor air, exposure can contribute to skin irritations, autoimmune issues, and long-term health problems.
We’re mostly talking about microplastics and nano plastics—tiny, persistent, and harmful particles that accumulate over time. Detoxing doesn’t have to be overwhelming. In fact, detoxing isn’t just about adding supplements—it’s about clearing out what blocks your body from functioning as it should, giving your natural systems the space to fight, eliminate, and restore balance.
Start by reducing exposure before adding detox products or supplements—less is more. Below is a comprehensive guide to help you protect your body, your home, and your health.
1. Avoidance Habits: Reduce Daily Exposure
The most impactful step is eliminating plastics where you encounter them most—daily items like water bottles, kitchen tools, and tap/shower water can contribute to cumulative exposure.
Tips:
Switch to glass, stainless steel, or ceramic containers for drinking, storing, and heating food. I have an Amazon kitchen essentials list I use, and I frequently share more on Instagram and YouTube.
Filter tap and shower water to reduce microplastics and chemical exposure. I use Bluevua for my countertop RO system and Omica Organics for my shower filter—use my code: animalbb
Skip single-use plastics: Ziploc bags, saran wrap, straws, and to-go cups. I use beeswax wraps and stainless steel reusable mugs.
Avoid processed foods and seed oils, which increase toxic load.
Never microwave food in plastic or consume heavily packaged meals.
Why it matters: Minimizing plastics at the source reduces the burden on your liver, kidneys, and natural detox pathways. Pairing these avoidance habits with an optimized nutrition plan is key—which is exactly what my Animal-Based Guide is designed for. It gives you the tools to fuel your body with nutrient-dense foods that actively support detox and long-term vitality.
2. Food Detox: Support Your Body from Within
Protein and healthy fats are essential for producing liver enzymes that metabolize and clear toxins.
Tips:
Eat fresh, minimally processed foods—organic produce, grass-fed meats, and filtered water.
Source quality meats: Conventional meat can carry pesticide runoff and microplastics.
Salt matters: Use microplastic-free salts like Vera Salt (code: BAE10).
Seafood caution: Many seafood options are contaminated with microplastics. I source wild seafood or regenerative aquaculture through Seatopia (code: BAE20).
Include detox-supportive foods: cilantro, milk thistle, and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli (even though I personally avoid veggies, its a good detox food).
Stay hydrated with mineral-rich water to support kidney, lymphatic, and liver detox pathways.

3. Deep, Quality Sleep
Sleep is when your body does its most important detox and repair work—especially at the cellular level. Without enough restorative rest, your body simply can’t keep up.
Tips:
Aim for 7–9 hours of uninterrupted, high-quality sleep each night.
Create a sleep-friendly environment to enhance rest and maximize detox—check out my Sleep Without Compromise Blog for ideas.
Choose natural fiber bedding over polyester. I love Coyuchi for plastic-free, breathable, and ultra-comfortable sheets.
4. Filter Your Indoor Air
Indoor environments often harbor microplastics and chemical off-gassing from furniture, carpets, and cleaners.
Tips:
Open windows whenever possible for natural ventilation.
Limit synthetic furniture and décor that off-gas chemicals. I mostly use wood and bamboo, and my Amazon bedroom, living room and kitchen essentials list includes other helpful options.
Invest in a high-quality air purifier like JASPR (use code: animalbb) —carbon steel, not plastic. I can’t recommend it enough. Whenever I travel and go without it, I notice a huge difference in my mood, energy and sleep quality.
5. Boost Lymphatic Flow & Sweat Out Toxins
Your lymphatic system is one of your body’s most important detox pathways—moving fluids, carrying away waste, and supporting immunity. The more you keep it flowing, the better your body can eliminate toxins.
Tips:
Take cold plunges or showers to stimulate circulation and lymph flow.
Dry brushing before bathing helps encourage lymphatic movement.
Move daily—exercise (especially rebounding on a mini-trampoline) is excellent for toxin elimination.
Use sauna sessions (15–30 minutes, 2–3 times per week) to combine sweating, circulation, and lymphatic drainage.
Pair exercise with sauna for the ultimate detox combo—enhancing sweat output and supporting your body’s natural cleansing systems.
7. Choosing Safe Clothing
Synthetic fabrics shed microplastics and off-gas chemicals that your skin absorbs, you inhale, or that wash into waterways. Heat, sweat, and friction only increase this exposure.
Tips:
Underwear: My go-tos are NADS (code: BAE15)—men’s boxers/briefs that I also wear for lounging, sauna sessions, and even cold plunges when I skip plastic altogether. For full-coverage underwear, I like Woolly (code: BAE)—though I’m not a fan of their thongs, I source those instead from ODDO Body.
Workout clothes: I love ALLWEAR (code: BAE10)—breathable, natural fabrics perfect for training, lounging, or dressing up for casual outings.
Other clothing: I mix and match from various sources—thrifting is affordable and often has natural fibers. Surprisingly, Target has some good finds if you check the labels.

8. Supplements & Support
Even with lifestyle changes, supporting your body internally is key.
Tips:
Manna Vitality Shilajit (code: BAE20) with fulvic acid supports chelation of heavy metals and plastic-derived chemicals. This can improve nutrient absorption, support detox pathways, and enhance cellular function.
Pair supplements with clean eating, hydration, and regular movement for optimal results.
Final Thoughts
Detoxing from plastics isn’t a one-step process—it’s a lifestyle transformation. Every choice matters: the food you eat, the air you breathe, the clothes you wear, and the tools you use. Combine avoidance habits, clean eating, filtered air, sauna sessions, mindful clothing choices, and supportive supplements to reduce plastic exposure and optimize your body’s natural detox systems.
Small, consistent changes accumulate over time, protecting your health, vitality, and overall well-being. If you’re ready to take the next step, my Animal-Based Guide is the perfect place to start—giving you the exact foods, tips, and meal strategies to strengthen your body’s natural detox systems.
